Artist Chris Jordan visits Hobart

Artist Chris Jordan visited Hobart recently, to speak and show photographs he took in September 2009, on a trip to Midway Atoll.

Midway Atoll is a tiny stretch of sand and coral near the middle of the North Pacific.

Mr Jordan’s work shows images of the carcasses of albatross chicks, their stomachs full of bits of plastic plucked out of the ocean and fed to them by their parents, who think it is food.

Here’s just one photo. See his website for more from the series, and here for a powerful slide show of his images on YouTube.

This just proves to me that something is wrong with the way we’ve done things for the past hundred years. I hope we can get it together and work towards stopping things like this

This is a touching video and extremely sad of the impact that humans and consumism make on the environment.

That photo is really shocking. I knew we were having an impact, but wow….
